Ongoing Projects

On this page you will find the ongoing projects that IMO Foundation is currently developing.

In the field of clinical research, the aim of the projects currently under development is not only to continue improving the prognosis of patients with certain pathologies, but also to offer, for the first time, effective solutions to diseases that currently have no treatment. This is also the ultimate goal of the basic research projects, which aim to analyze in depth already known genes, as well as to identify new genes related to hereditary eye diseases.

Investigación clínica

HUMANeye

Implantable titanium net to combat pathological corneal shape deformations.

Investigación básica

Identification of new genetic variants responsible for Stickler Syndrome

The Stickler Syndrome encompasses several genetic diseases, which cause various eye disorders and are difficult to diagnose. For this reason, the objective of this research is to identify all the genes involved in these pathologies in order to improve the process of diagnosis and treatment.

Investigación básica

iPS cells as a study tool and model to implement the CRISPR-Cas system in the treatment of Retinal Dystrophies

The ultimate goal of this research is to lay the foundation for the application of cell therapy in the treatment of retinal dystrophies, by implanting healthy cells, obtained from iPS cells, in the patients' affected tissues.

Investigación básica

Comprehensive analysis of the ABCA4 gene: characterization of new pathogenic variants

A great number of patients affected by retinal dystrophies with macular involvement, such as Stargardt's disease, have mutations in ABCA4, a complex and large gene. The aim of this research is to study this gene to improve the diagnosis and treatment of these pathologies.

Investigación básica

Identification of new retinal dystrophies genes and characterization of genotype-phenotype correlations

The aim of this research project is to identify new causative genes of retinal dystrophies, in order to contribute to the knowledge and diagnosis of these diseases.
